Review Committee

Roles and Responsibilities
 

The Review Committee responds to requests for United Way funding for special projects, short-term programs, or programs that support the goals and objectives of United Way. 

The Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Review Committee will be members of the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley Executive Committee.

Who can apply for funding through the Review Committee:

  1. Agencies who receive United Way funding for programs through the Community Investment process may apply for special project/program funding and/or short-term programs (i.e. 6-week program on obesity).  Funding may be applied annually to renew the program for up to three years.
  2. Agencies who have never received United Way funding for programs may apply for special project funding, short-term program funding, or funding for programs that support the goals and objectives of the United Way, renewable annually for up to three years. 
  3. Agencies who have received United Way funding through the Review Committee and who have demonstrated success in the program funded may reapply, annually, for funding for the program up to a maximum of three years.

Agency eligibility requirements;

  • Articles of Incorporation from State of Ohio
  • 501 (c) 3 Federal Tax Exempt Status Letter
  • By-Laws
  • Mission Statement
  • Board Roster
  • Most Recent Independent Audit with Management Letter
  • Most Recent IRS 990 (if required to file)
  • Last Year’s Year-End Financial Report
  • Current Operating Budget
  • Affirmative Action Policies/Non-Discrimination Policies
  • Organizational Chart
  • Current Licensure/Documentation of Accreditation
  • Proof of Liability Insurance, including Directors and Officers Liability Insurance

Application Process:

  1. Applications may be requested from United Way
  2. Completed applications must be received by June 30 and December 31 for consideration
  3. The Review Committee will meet in July and January for discussion of the proposed programs received as of the dates shown above.
  4. Additional meetings may be called by the Chairperson as necessary with 10 days notice
  5. If the Review Committee wishes to provide funding, the Review Committee will make that recommendation at the next Executive Committee meeting.

The Review Committee will be responsible for:

  1. Thorough review of all requests for funding and accompanying financial information.
  2. Attendance at meetings to discuss the requests.

Qualified 501 (c ) (3) organizations will be considered on the basis of funds available and community priorities.
