About Women’s Leadership Council
The Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) is a new and powerful voice in philanthropy that is being heard across the country with more than 40,000 members nationwide. The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley recognizes that women are an emerging force in philanthropy and seeks to deepen this involvement by mobilizing the caring power of women in our community. The WLC specifically promotes initiatives that support women and children in Mahoning County.
Our Mission
Our mission is to inspire, celebrate, educate and engage women in philanthropy and community service to positively impact lives.
Our Impact
The Women’s Leadership Council partnered with H.O.W (Helping Other Women). H.O.W. is an organization designed to empower adolescent and adult females to achieve and maintain independence, stability and personal growth. H.O.W. supports a program, Operation Off the Floor, that collects and distributes household items to those in need. The WLC adopted Operation Off the Floor as their special project for the year, providing kitchen supplies, furniture, bedding and appliances for area residents. They also participated in the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley Day of Caring, organizing the H.O.W. warehouse with volunteers from Humility of Mary Health Partners in order to make the site an efficient and operable distribution center.
How To Become A Member
In order to join the WLC, women are asked to donate a minimum of $250 to the United Way.
