The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley announced that $2.6 million dollars will be the goal for its 2014 Campaign Goal.  At the 17th annual Day of Caring, Campaign Co-chairs Ed and Chris Muransky joined United Way President Bob Hannon to reveal the increase from $2.5 million the previous year.

The new goal was announced at the 17th Annual Day of Caring, which traditionally kicks off the campaign for the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.  They also released the results of their Pace Setter Campaign, which is made up of 54 companies and partner agencies.  This year they brought in $730,549.73, or 28% of its 2014 goal of $2.6 million dollars.

"Our campaign is off to a great start thanks in large part to our loyal donors and our Campaign Co-Chairs Ed and Chris Muransky," said Bob Hannon, United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley President, "We held several very successful fund raisers so far this year.  Combine those events with the pace setter companies and we are well on our way to achieve our ambitious goal of $2.6 million dollars."

The 17th Annual Day of Caring was one of the largest for the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.  Close to 600 volunteers from 52 businesses and organizations signed up for the event.  The Day of Caring is a day dedicated to hands on volunteer experiences throughout the community.

This year the United Way teamed up with YNDC and Green Youngstown to revitalize a North Side Youngstown neighborhood.  Approximately 275 of the registered volunteers spent the day in a three block area between 5th Avenue and Ohio Avenue.  They focused their efforts on 21 blighted homes located on Fairgreen, Lora, and Norwood.  Volunteers cleaned up debris, overgrown vegetation, and boarded up the vacant homes.  The other volunteers spent the day at 21 non-profit agencies through the Mahoning Valley.

The Day of Caring is co-sponsored by NYO Property Group and Lowe's.  Other sponsors include State Farm, AIM NationaLease, Akron Children's Hospital Mahoning Valley, Dearing Compressor and Pump, Huntington Bank, Marucci and Gaffney Excavating, Park Vista, Sam's Club, and Simon Roofing.
