FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2017

Email Roxann Sebest for more information on how to participate in 2018's Day of Caring.

Sponsored By:

The United Way Day of Caring officially kicks off the annual campaign with a breakfast and hands-on volunteer opportunities.  United Way partners with the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation, City of Youngstown, and the American Red Cross to complete the City's largest "Fight Blight" project of the year.  More than 800 volunteers sign up for the Day of Caring with 600 of those volunteers working on the YNDC/ City of Youngstown Project.  The rest of the volunteers go to United Way's partner agencies throughout Mahoning County.

In 2017, approximately 600 of volunteers spent the day working along the Oak Street Corridor on the East Side of Youngstown.   They focused their clean-up efforts on 3 miles of sidewalks along the heavily traveled roadway.  Volunteers cleaned up debris, overgrown vegetation, and made the sidwalks passable for residents and students walking to East High School.

Teams with the American Red Cross installed dozens of smoke detectors in  homes.   The other volunteers spent the day at 18 non-profit agencies throughout the Mahoning Valley.

You can be one of the hundreds of volunteers at the Day of Caring!
