We are committed to high standards of performance and accountability. United Way Worldwide’s standards lead the non-profit sector in accountability, transparency, solid governance, and the promotion of diversity, ethics and brand stewardship.
Accountability

  • The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley has a stringent system of internal controls in place to ensure that it operates in a sound fiscal manner
  • The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley’s operating budget, as well as its community funding decisions, are reviewed and approved by several volunteer committees, including our Board of Directors
  • Independent CPA firm Packer Thomas, Certified Public Accountants and Business Consultants, conducts our annual audit. Our 2019 audit was completed in June, 2020and reports that our financial statements fairly and accurately represent our financial position.
  • Our annual audit is reviewed by our volunteer Fiance Committee and approved by our Board of Directors.
  • In 2020, our United Way received a 4-Star rating, the highest rating given by Charity Navigator and a Gold Star Rating for Transparency on Guidestar. Click here to learn more about Charity Navigator.

UWYMV will leverage our role as a leader in the community to serve and advocate for the voices of those who have been marginalized.
Our United Way is committed to the following actions:
To continue to promote race, diversity, equity, and inclusion in UWYMV work, including the board of directors, staff, and partner agencies of the organization.
Develop leaders in the organization who are educated and aware of the critical issues related to race, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Review organizational structures to enhance current policies and procedures to honor race, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Identify our own blind spots and biases.
Create equity benchmarks that hold us accountable and track our organization’s progress toward achieving equitable change
Report on our racial equity work and progress as part of our annual reporting
Use racial equity as one of the criteria in making community investments.
Provide each employee with learning opportunities, professional development, and reflection on how we are exhibiting our commitment to RDEI.
Incorporate RDEI considerations into the funding process.
Ensure a commitment to RDEI when internal promotions, lateral moves, and retention are considered.
Design a work plan to increase the cultural competency of the organization and measure it annually.
Redesign organizational structures to enhance current policies and procedures to honor race, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
