Our Work

Promising Men Mentorship Program is a United Way initiative. The program seeks to partner successful African-American and Hispanic men from the local community to serve as positive role models and mentors for 5th and 8th grade boys.  The program currently takes place at the Youngstown Community School and Taft Elementary.  The mission of the program is to provide support, guidance, and encourage young men to follow a path to become Promising Men.

  • "I'm loving being a mentor. They are like my little brothers. I need to show them the right way. I came from a similar background as them. I want them to know we can break the cycle. Teach them about cause and effect. I've grown as a mentor. I learn something new every day from them. I wanted to give back and this was a no-brainer for me to be a part of the program."
