Quarter Four - United Way's Centennial Celebration
Thank you to Doug and Alexa Sweeney and Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC for being a Presenting Sponsor for our Centennial Celebration. We truly appreciate your generous support to make an impact in our community.
The Sweeney family, now led by Doug Sweeney and the next generation represented by his daughter Alexa Sweeney Blackann, have a long standing relationship with the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.
"It's been generational," said Doug Sweeney. "In our case, Alexa represents our 4th generation. 98 years."
Doug served as the Campaign Chair in 2007 helping us raise $2.8 million.
"I remember carrying around a list of companies that truly didn't give to United Way and I had that list with me the whole time," said Doug.
"Every chance I had to run into one of those people, I'd give them the sales pitch of why not donate to United Way."
Doug said it was very rewarding to volunteer for United Way and passed that on to his children. Alexa joined our board in 2016.
"My favorite thing about being on the board and also from a funder perspective, because we're asked to support a lot charities, I love that United Way goes into the community and works with other partners," said Alexa.
"They work with Oh Wow!, Ballet Western Reserve, Boys and Girls Club and this moves the whole community forward."
During their quarter, Sweeney hosted the Triple Threat Terrain Giveaway, in which they gave away a two year lease on a 2020 Terrain. All the proceeds from the raffle benefit the United Way and Youngstown State University.
